Athens through the eyes of its artists today.
This afternoon walk takes you inside three leading galleries, each offering a distinct approach to color, form and narrative. A walk through works that question, challenge and invite conversation.
On the route:
- Michael Werner Gallery / “Thief” by Raphaela Simon
Michael Werner Gallery, Athens is pleased to present Thief, an exhibition of new paintings and sculpture by German artist Raphaela Simon (b. 1986 in Villingen, Germany).
This is Simon’s first exhibition in Athens, Greece. As a painter, Simon surrenders control, allowing her paintings to form themselves and obtain meaning on their own. The artist feels that intellect and will can make a painting illustrative. Instead, she relies on intuition and feeling, creating works that are intimate and personal.
- Kalfayan Galleries / “Mother Tongue” by Harm Gerdes
The exhibition “Mother Tongue” by Cypriot-German artist Harm Gerdes at Kalfayan Galleries marks the first time the artist will show new large-scale abstract paintings in Athens, since moving to the city two years ago. The artist will be present during the visit.
- Skoufa Gallery / “Emerald Paintings” by Stella Kapezanou
Skoufa Gallery presents the exhibition of Stella Kapezanou, “Emerald Paintings”. This is the most mature body of work the acclaimed artist has presented to date.
Paintings in vivid hues reminiscent of precious emeralds emerge as deceptive portrayals of an idealized life—dazzling, yet at the same time “radioactively flat.” The artist will be present during the visit.
