EMMY-WINNING LIGHT DESIGNER

Eleftheria Deko is a pioneer in lighting design in Greece. Since the early 90s her work and teachings have influenced the field of lighting, giving it an equal place among other arts. She has designed the lighting for more than 600 performances, events, art installations in Greece and abroad and more than 100 architectural lighting projects receiving international reviews, awards and honors.

Her participation in the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games, as a Lighting Designer and director of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies earned her an EMMY award in 2005 for outstanding lighting direction making her the first Greek to receive this distinction.

The internationally awarded projects of her Edeko lighting studio include the lighting of the Acropolis, the temple of Poseidon, the Athens International Airport new wing, the Experiential Center at Hellinikon, the exhibition “Behold Liberty” of the Greek Parliament, the façade lighting of the Onassis Library and Onassis Stegi, among others.

Her teaching career began in 1990 at NYU, followed by the Theater Dpt. of Thessaloniki Aristotle University (2005-2019). She is recognized as the first to introduce the art of Stage Lighting into the Greek academic setting.
